This past Sunday, eight AUAC runners were up at dawn for the SARRC McLaren Vale Running Festival. The brisk morning wind and early start were not enough to scare away our team, who were quick to get warmed up and in the mood for a good run through the gorgeous wineries surrounding the event.

All eight members ran stellar times, but Vice President Angus Haines and member Sarah French had plenty to brag about by the end of their 10km. Angus placed first in the Men’s 10km with a 34:35 time, while Sarah came in third for the Women’s at 41:47. Neither of them had to wait long for Euan Monaghan, who also ran an impressive 39:17. Club members Olivia Sprodd, Evalin Brautigam, Lulu Duxby and Lima Longkumer were all standout representatives in the half marathon, achieving PB’s and finishing their race tired, but gleeful. Bringing up the rear was Treasurer and self-proclaimed club ‘Spiritual Leader’ His Holiness Dion Lobotesis, who attended the 10km mostly on the promise of a 20% finisher’s discount at the local bakery.

A successful day at the races was bookended with coffees, cakes, and a good laugh at a nearby café overlooking the picturesque vineyards.
