Current BMX Junior Elite Champion, Matthew Tidswell (20), will travel to Nantes, France in July to compete at the BMX World Championships.

The BMX World Championships are set to be held from 26 - 31 July 2022, with the University of Adelaide student eager to impress in Europe.

Approaching his third year, Matthew is currently studying a Bachelor of Science hoping to work in the Biomedical Science field.

"From the age of six I have been riding bikes, in particular BMX bikes", said Matthew. 14 years later, he has claimed both the 2020 and 2021 State Series Championships, and recently crowned the Junior Elite Champion.

Matthew was recently notified by Adelaide University Sport that his application for the 'Pathway to Performance' grant was successful, which will assist with his travel to the championships.

These grants were first introduced in 2018 by AU Sport, which aims to provide financial support to student elite athletes.

Matthew will be travelling to Nerang, Queensland this weekend to compete in the AusCycling BMX National Championships.

We wish Matthew all the best for the upcoming event and the World Championships in July.
