Pathway to Performance recipient Roshan Chandran (19), finished 6th out of 42 fencers at the National Championships in Melbourne last week.

The 2021 SA State Champion travelled to Melbourne to compete in The Australian Open Men's Epee Championships, which was held from the 11-15 December.

The Bachelor of Engineering student began Fencing in 2012 and said he has been enthralled ever since.

"The part of the sport I find most appealing is the deception and mind games played between opponents when competing."

After winning all preliminary matches, which determined his tournament ranking—Roshan progressed to the next rounds seeded 2nd out of 42 fencers.

Roshan advanced to the quarter finals, defeating Andrew Madden (QLD) and Samuel Gould (VIC) to set up a quarter final match up with Victorian, Mark Bianchin.

Unfortunately, Roshan was defeated 15-13 by the Victorian, but said he was pleased with his results in Melbourne.

His 6th placed finish was the best result of all fencers under 20.

Everyone at AU Sport would like to congratulate Roshan on his achievements at the National Fencing Championships.
