Last Friday Adelaide University Sport hosted the 12th Vice-Chancellor’s Cup, which the Faculty of Arts won for the first time. The relay race around campus consisted of eight teams, this year including an inaugural Adelaide University Sport & Fitness team on what was a sunny day with perfect running conditions.
Sciences came in second place and Health Sciences in third, followed by ECMS, Professions, DASE, External Operations and finally Adelaide University Sport & Fitness in eighth place.
Interim Vice-Chancellor Mike Brookes announced the beginning of the race and presented the Faculty of Arts team with their trophy.
Intervarsity Events & Student Engagement Officer Thomas Sharpe was extremely happy with the positive impact of the event.
“On what turned out to be a stunning Friday afternoon, it was fantastic to see so many students and staff converge on the Barr Smith Lawns and around the campus. In such a tough year for all, it was exciting to be able to engage the University community on campus for the first time since O'Week.”
The race was the perfect end to what was an amazing Sports Week (formally known as IFAR WEEK), the first major event for students since they returned to campus. The week included games, inflatable amusements, social sport, free group fitness classes run by The Fitness Hub and most importantly, an opportunity for students to get active in a proactive way on campus.
