Board of Management

Responsibility for the conduct of our business is vested in the Board of Management, which meets monthly on at least nine occasions annually. The Board is elected annually (four members retire each year on rotation) by the Sports Council. The purpose of the Board is to oversee and manage the distribution of funds, provide direction to staff and make strategic decisions pertaining to the operations of Adelaide University Sport and Fitness. Our General Managerm Michelle Wilson, is a non-voting ex-officio member of the Board.

David is an Economics, Commerce and  Master of Business Administration graduate with 20 years experience in state government sector finance and administration.  David has over 25 years continuous involvement with the Adelaide University Cricket Club as player, committee member and coach, and is passionate about assisting the Adelaide University community with quality opportunities to participate in sport and recreation.

 
Michael Physick
 

Michael Physick

University Representative

Michael is the University nominee on the Board of Adelaide University Sport.  Having joined the Board in 2004, he is also the independent Chair of the Morgan Users Group.  Michael is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and also represents the University on the Boards of the Adelaide University Union (AUU) and St Mark’s College. In his substantive role, Michael is Manager, Student Affairs at the University of Adelaide.

April Zimmerman

Touch | Student Representative

April is a current law and psychology student at the University and had a keen interest in Touch Football since beginning her degree. She became involved in the Committee as a Child Protection Officer in late 2016 and is currently the Vice President of the Adelaide University Touch Club. As the Student Representative on the Board, April seeks to ensure that the student voice is heard at the highest level of management for Adelaide University Sport to ensure decisions are made with our student member base in mind.











 
Chris McMichael

Basketball

Chris' involvement with the AU Sport board began in 2013 as a student representative. Since graduating from the engineering school he has maintained his connection to the AU Sport community through both the basketball and football clubs. Chris holds a co-opted board position so that experience from his extended involvement with the board and his previous tenure as the AU Sport deputy-president can be utilised.

Cricket

Leo has extensive experience across a range of positions in varying sporting fields. Leo currently works as the Executive Officer at Sports Association of Adelaide Schools and the Development Premier Grade Cricket Assistant at the Adelaide University Cricket Club.










 
Sonya Battersby
 

Sonya Battersby

Independent Representative

Sonya currently works as a Finance Manager at Elders Rural Services. She is also a Chartered Accountant with 16+ years experience in financial/management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning and decision support.










 
Jack Brady
 

Jack Brady

Rugby Union & Cricket | Student Representative

Jack has been involved with both the Adelaide University Cricket Club and Adelaide University Rugby Union Football Club. Jack has experience in working as part of a committee across various fields. Jack is also a Residential Advisor at St Mark's College responsible for the mental and physical wellbeing of students, along with entering his first year as an accounting tutor for students at St Marks College.

Table Tennis & Tennis | Student Representative

Oliver is a current law and Law & Arts student at the University and is the current Vice President of the Table Tennis Club and coach/player at the Tennis Club. As a lifelong athlete Oliver has benefitted from the positives of playing sport, now as he gets older he wants to turn his focus to helping others enjoy those positives as well. Oliver believe sport is integral to a healthy and well rounded life.

Will is currently a member of the Adelaide University Boat Club and has a wealth of experience within University sporting clubs and organisations. Will has immense knowledge regarding the elite athlete support networks and how they operate. He believe he can bring a strategic viewpoint on how we can structure our sports to be the best in the state, and work towards being the best university sporting program in the country.

Josie is currently studying a MPhil in Chemistry and has been a part of the Mountain Club since she started University and has seen the importance sport and recreation for students. Josie believes she will be able to represent the perspective of  the more social and less competitive clubs on the Board.

Alacoque is in her final year of study at the University in Commerce. Alacoque is heavily involved at the Adelaide University Boat Club as a rower and Captain of the club. Alacoque has a passion for participation and inclusion, ensuring all receive the same opportunities to compete and succeed, to the level their talent, effort and commitment allows. Whilst not being in the elite program, she has assisted many athletes navigate through it. and understands it enough to be able to help optimise the program’s benefits to elite athletes.

Jemima is currently studying International Development at the University and is part of the Adelaide Unievrsity Boat Club as rower and committee member. She is a passionate member of the club and is looking to support all Adelaide Unievrsity Sport clubs in creating supportive and incusive environments. Jemima has benefitted from the support of Adelaide University Sport in her sporting journey and wishes to be further involved in promoting development and a healthy lifestyle for all students.
