The University of Adelaide and Adelaide University Sport & Fitness work together to deliver sporting opportunities and support to our students. Adelaide University Sport & Fitness has a 125 year history of sporting success through its 35 associated clubs. We play an integral role in enriching the lives of our students through promoting a study-life balance, encouraging new friendships, building new skills and leading a healthy campus culture.
Our High-Performance Teams
Basketball - University Basketball League
Adelaide University Waatu
The AU Waatu Men and Women played in the 2022 University Basketball League (UBL). The players travelled to Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast in the semi-professional home and away league. ‘Waatu’ is Kaurna language for coming together for a common cause. The 2023 AU Waatu have recently held the first trials for 2023, with the second trial to be hled after O-Week. Click for more information.
Rugby 7’s - Women’s National Series
Adelaide University Roma’s
The AU Roma’s play annually in the Women National Rugby 7’s Series. The Roma’s are named after Dame Roma Mitchell the first female Governor or South Australia. The Roma’s program is a pathway to the Rugby Australia Rugby 7’s Olympic teams. Roma’s athletes have already gone onto professional contracts and Rugby National Teams. Financial Support for athletes
Financial Scholarships
High Performance Sporting Scholarships support our Elite Athletes compete in National & International competition. The University of Adelaide and Adelaide University Sport & Fitness offer up to $25,000 in Scholarships to High Performance Athletes annually.
AUSF also offer additional Scholarships through our Sporting Clubs and community sport associated with AUSF.
Grants
The University of Adelaide and Adelaide University Sport & Fitness offer up to $24,000 annually in travel grants to support athletes selected into State & National Teams.
Elite Athlete Support:
The University of Adelaide is an Elite Athlete Friendly University and offers academic support and flexibility for Elite Athletes. Academic support helps athletes to adjust assignment due dates and exam times that clash with sporting commitments. These athlete are also supported by the AUSF Elite Athlete Club. The Elite Athlete Club provides support, development workshops and networking opportunities for Elite Athletes.
