adelaide University sport & fitness Scholarships

CLOSING DATE FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS IS FRIDAY 14 MARCH 2025

 

AIS and AUSF Sports Scholarship -  $5,000 per annum*

A new scholarship in 2025, the AIS AUSF Sports Scholarship aims to provide support to coaches and/or athletes with a total funding pool of *$5,000 per annum per student for up to three years. The purpose of the AIS AUSF Scholarship is to provide financial support to current Australian elite coaches and/or athletes, who are committing themselves beyond their training and competitions, to pursue tertiary education opportunities at the University of Adelaide.

Applicants must be categorised athletes by their National Sporting Organisation and Elite Coach applicants must be a coach of NTC/NCE/COE or NIN programs in ASC funded sports. Refer to T&C's for more information.

 

Bob Heddle -  $3,000 

Bob Heddle was Director of the University Health Service from 1964-1982. The scholarships are awarded on merit to unspecified sports and acknowledges the contribution to an Adelaide University Sport club. Scholarships are presented to a University of Adelaide student, who not only excel in their chosen sport but also give valuable service to their Adelaide University Sports club. There is one scholarship available. 

2024 Scholarship Winner - Lucas Milsom


Charlie Jessop - $2,000 

Charlie Jessop was an Adelaide University Sport life member who made significant contributions to the University of Adelaide, AU Sport & the Law faculty. The scholarship is awarded to a student as part of the Arts, Business, Law and Economics Faculty, who not only excels in their chosen sport, but also gives valuable service to their AU Sport club. There is one scholarship available.

Adelaide University Sport President Scholarships - $2,000 

Awarded to University of Adelaide students in their first year of study, as a financial incentive to join an Adelaide University Sport club. The scholarship holder must make himself/herself available for Adelaide University Sport club matches, including during university holidays, unless special permission is granted by the club and Adelaide University Sport.  The holder may not play for any other club, on loan or temporary transfer, during the three years of the scholarship.  President's scholarships are payable to assist with the payment of compulsory fees, textbooks and sporting equipment, as well as the athlete’s club membership fees for up to three years.

Don Stranks -  $2,000 

The late Professor Don Stranks was Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President of the University and a keen supporter of the football and cricket clubs. Applicants must excel in either football or cricket, and also give valuable service to either the Adelaide University football or cricket club. Applicants nominate themselves, but need the clubs support. There is one scholarship available for a student that plays premier first grade cricket and / or Division 1 football for the University of Adelaide.

AU Soccer Club Scholarships - $2,000

The AU Soccer Club Scholarship is awarded to one male playing at a State League level, and one female athlete playing WNPL. The student must be an active financial member of the Adelaide University Soccer Club. There are two scholarships available for one male and one female recipient. These two schoalrships are co-funded by the AU Soccer Club.

People's Choice Scholarships - $1,000  

Adelaide University Sport prides itself on providing sport and recreation opportunities for all students and the People’s Choice Credit Union sponsored scholarships are designed to support our focus on inclusion. This scholarship is awarded to Women in Sport, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Athletes or Athletes with a Disability.

The University of Adelaide Scholarships

The University of Adelaide Sport - $2,500  

Provided by the University of Adelaide, the scholarship benefits two students per year who are undertaking an undergraduate or honours program at the University of Adelaide and who have been identified by the University as members of the Sports Association. The scholarship is available for one year. 

2024 Scholarship Winners - Lachlan Davis, Clancy Luscombe

 

Frances Adamson Scholarship - $2,000

One scholarship awarded annually to a student who is undertaking an undergraduate, honours or postgraduate coursework program of study at the University of Adelaide and has been identified as a member of the Adelaide University Sports and Fitness Association. Students should be an active financial member of the Adelaide University Boat Club.

Other Club Scholarships

Max Weir Intervarsity Hockey Award - $500 

The Max Weir Intervarsity Hockey Award recognises the contribution of a hockey player who is active and involved in their club, university or local community and likely to contribute to the Adelaide University Hockey Club through their participation in the University Nationals.  

Chester Bennett Scholarship  - up to $3,000

The Chester Bennett Scholarship is awarded to an Adelaide University Cricket Club player and University undergraduate with the potential to play at the highest level. The scholarship includes a cash amount to assist with the cost of equipment, club membership fees, club kit/uniform. The scholarship also covers the recipient's costs for attending national intervarsity competitions.

Daniell Family and Swift Family Scholarship - $500 

Awarded to a volleyball player based on academic achievement, sporting participation and performance, leadership qualities, and extracurricular activities.  


 

Grants

Pathway to Performance – Individual Grants for AUSF Members only

2025 applications are now open and are assessed monthly by the AUSF Board from February to November or until funds are exhausted.

Financial support for international, national and state level athletes for specific costs (e.g. gym membership, performance testing and travel for national and international championships etc.). This includes support for athletes to attend UniNationals and are distributed in tier levels.

The Vice Chancellor provides sport travel grants to assist The University of Adelaide students representing Australia in their sport.
