Our Board wishes to recognise the contribution and performance of University of Adelaide students, who represent the University of Adelaide in Intervarsity competition but are not a member of one of the affiliated AU Sport clubs. Students, who reach such an achievement, will be presented with the 'Intervarsity Certificate of Merit' Award at the 'The Blues' function held annually. Thus a new award, the Intervarsity Certificate of Merit, was instituted in 2017.
The criteria for the award are as follows:
The AU student athlete must take part in an AU Sport recognised Intervarsity competition including but not limited to: Australian University Sport sanctioned events (Uni Nationals/Championships), interclub Intervarsity competitions, University Rugby 7s and Go8 competitions.
They must be recognised for their special performance at the event (eg MVP or Competition award).
For the Uni Nationals, the athlete must have contributed greatly to either the team as a whole or the sport club which organised the sport team for the Nationals, in a significant way, but did not play for that AU Sport club as its highest team was not of sufficient standard. Athletes, who compete in a sport that was not affiliated through AU Sport (eg handball, lawn bowls and ten pin bowling), would also be eligible.
The recognition be termed as an AU Sport Intervarsity ‘Certificate of Merit’ for outstanding performances and be given at the annual Blues awards function.
Nominations would be sought from AU Sport clubs and Intervarsity team managers.
A student athlete can only receive one award per sport played at the University.
For assessment of ‘level of contribution’ in criterion 2 above, the Board would make that decision based on recommendations provided by the AUSF staff.
