Adelaide University Sport Elite athletes Harrison Bagley and Thomas Lightfoot have received the University of Adelaide Sport Scholarships for 2022.

This scholarship has been established by Adelaide University Sport and The University of Adelaide, which aims to provide and promote the best possible sport and recreation environment for the University community.

Both students are part of the Adelaide University Sport Elite Athlete Club, with Bagley competing as a distance runner and Lightfoot a competitive swimmer.

Harrison Bagley is a fifth year Mechatronic Engineering student, who has represented both South Australia and Australia, recently travelling to Portugal for the World University Cross Country Championships.

"Receiving this scholarship means a lot. It will allow me to peruse my studies, while also focusing on my sport and competing at high level," he said.

Second year Mechanical Engineering student, Thomas Lightfoot is an elite swimmer who competed in the Olympic Trials for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and most recently at the 2022 Commonwealth Games trials.

"Having the support from the University and AU Sport has been super helpful, as it has given me the opportunity to balance and focus on my degree and my sport", Thomas said.

This scholarship is a massive weight off the shoulders of student athletes like Harrison and Thomas, as it provides financial support for travel and equipment for upcoming competitions.
