Growing Memberships and International Success for AU Athletics Club

With membership numbers continuing to grow and athlete success both nationally and on the world stage it has led to a highly successful 2023 for the Adelaide University (AU) Athletics Club.
After a 20-year hiatus, the club reaffiliated with Athletics SA in 2021 and this has led to 100 members, 40 of those being competitive members and whilst the club is predominately distance runners they have had a large influx this year of sprinters.
Harrison Bagley’s hard work paid off with selection in the Chengdu 2023 FISU Summer World University Games in Chengdu, China which ran from July 28 to August 8, 2023. Harrison performed admirably in the half marathon finishing 28th overall.
Cael Mulholland competed for Australia in the under 20’s World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst earlier this year and has since got a scholarship at Loyola University (Chicago) and has since been part of the winning A10 Conference championship team.
Six members were selected from the club to compete in one of the biggest national running meets on the calendar, the 76th Australian Cross Country Championships in Canberra on the 26th of August however due to sickness only three were able to run on the day.
Cooper Giles and Zac Connell competed in the open and Alex Rawley in the juniors and committee member and coach Michael Nitschke said all three performed well on a national stage.
Michael said he was extremely grateful to club treasurer Sean Green and club secretary Zac Connell for all of their support and paid credit to them for the success of the club in the past couple of years.
