Tuesday evening saw the Annual 2022 Blues Awards Ceremony took place at the National Wine Centre, which highlighted club and athlete successes for the year.

Students, athletes and volunteers were recognised for their sporting achievements and contributions, our traditional Half Blues and Blues awards presented to those competing at a high level at both state and national competitions.

Throughout the night, we also recognised our 2022 Scholarship Holders and Intervarsity Certificate of Merit recipients.

But it was our Volunteer of the Year, Coach of the Year and Club of the Year awards that stole the show.

Our Volunteer of the Year Award was split into two categories, student and non-student which saw Madeeha Siddiqui and Jemina Deane recognised for each award.

Madeeha was an integral part of the AU Waatus debut season, where she took on the responsibility as team manager for the season.

She juggled her last year of study with managing the universities team on the national stage, which saw the men’s squad finish sixth in the country.

Jemina is currently President of the Adelaide University Hockey Club and received the non-student Volunteer of the Year award for her contribution to the club.

Her support for the West Beach Recreation Hub rollout and dedication to the club was recognised, as well as seeing the Women’s team crowned Premiers in 2022.

Our Coach of the Year award highlighted two outstanding individuals in Michael Headland (Judo) and Sam Morton (Boat).

But it was Michael who was awarded the honours, after he guided the club to successful campaigns at state and national competitions in 2022.

The Patron’s Cup saw four nominees battle it out for the prestigious cup, including clubs such as Baseball, Hockey, Boat and Judo.

The Patron’s Cup is awarded to a club for outstanding achievement across the year, which saw Adelaide University Judo Club named the winner.

The Judo Club enjoyed a great year taking out gold in the National Schools Competition, as well as three golds, five silvers and two bronze medals at the Australian National Judo Championships

Our Club of the Yea awards were also split into two categories, recognising our larger and smaller clubs.

The Jessop Shield Club of the Year Award recognised clubs with less than 50 members, which included nominees such as Swimming, Water Ski and Baseball.

But after a rapid growth period and strong media presence, Adelaide University Swimming Club took out the award after overcoming several financial and governance challenges in 2022.

Lastly, the Bennett Shield Club of the Year recognised clubs with more than 50 members, which included nominees such as Judo, Touch, Basketball and Rugby.

The Adelaide University Basketball Club was named the winners of the Bennett Shield, after a steallr 2022.

Avid supporters of the inaugural UBL team and reaching over 200 members, saw the club secure high-level coaching and development for their Division One teams.

Adelaide University Sport and Fitness would like to congratulate all recipients from the 2022 Annual Blues Awards.
