Adila Makes a Splash: PhD Student Wins Top Volunteer Award at UniSport Gala!

Adila Halim, a third-year PhD student in Astrophysics at the University of Adelaide, shone brightly at the 2023 UniSport Australia Awards Gala in Canberra, where she was honoured with the Most Outstanding Contribution by a Student Volunteer award for her dedication to the Adelaide University Swimming Club.
Her journey into volunteering with AU Swimming began with a simple love for social sport and swimming. Wanting to help the club grow, and encourage more participation, Adila joined as a committee member, initially inspired by her friend Erin.
Balancing academic commitments with volunteer work is challenging, but Adila tackles it by delegating tasks effectively and staying consistent in her studies while advocating for herself when needed.
One of her most notable contributions to AU Swimming, was organising a Water Safety Event for international students in collaboration with Royal Life Saving South Australia, a venture that proved to be a resounding success for the club.
Through her volunteer work, Adila has not only gained leadership skills but also some wonderful life lessons, enriching both her personal and professional development. Her advice to fellow students interested in sports volunteering is simple: “Don’t be afraid to get involved and be open to learning. You won’t believe the number of friends you will make along the way!”
Reflecting on her achievement, Adila shares, “My passion in contributing to my sport and community is shared, acknowledged and appreciated. It brings me great joy and encourages me to continue to do what I’m doing”.
A huge congratulations to Adila on this well-deserved award!
