Published Mon 01 Jul 2024
Thursday, June 27, 2024, marked a significant milestone as we held our inaugural Play with Pride Brunch, presented in collaboration with The University of Adelaide. Hosted by the amazing Jarrod Walsh at the SkyCity Ballroom, the event was a huge success, showcasing the power of sport to promote inclusion and celebrate diversity. The supportive atmosphere brought together community members, athletes, allies, and artists to share stories and discuss ways to enhance LGBTIQA+ inclusion in sports.
Guests heard from industry professionals and athletes, including Andy Brennan, Andrew Purchas OAM, Hazel Robinson-Cox, Anu Francis, Jane Russo, and Matthew Mitcham OAM OLY, who joined us live on screen from the UK. Matthew Mitcham delighted the audience by showcasing his Olympic gold medal, earning loud applause and appreciation.
These speakers shared important insights on making sports more inclusive for the LGBTIQA+ community. Their stories were both enlightening and empowering, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in the room. The event also featured wonderful performances from Adelaide Qwire and Emerauld, adding to the excitement of the morning.

A big thank you to our platinum sponsor, The University of Adelaide - Division of Academic and Student Engagement, gold sponsor - Thorne Harbour Health, silver sponsor - Rugby Australia, wine sponsor - Howard Vineyard and thank you for the financial support through grants from The University of Adelaide - Student Health and Wellbeing, and YouX.
