As the sun sets on another academic year, the Adelaide University Sport and Fitness (AUSF) community is basking in the glory of a truly remarkable twelve months.

Our diverse range of sporting clubs has not only showcased exceptional skill and determination but has also redefined the meaning of success within our vibrant sporting culture.

At the 2023 Blues Awards, we proudly acknowledged three outstanding 'Clubs of the Year,' who each received an award for their achievements.

A huge congratulations to all three winning clubs - we look forward to seeing what you achieve in 2024!

The Patron’s Cup Award – AU BOAT CLUB

This award is presented in recognition of Professor McWha’s support of AU Sport during his ten-year tenure as Vice- Chancellor. It is given to a club for outstanding sporting achievements across the year and AU Boat were awarded the prestigious award after an incredible last 12 months.

AU Boat etched their name in the history books by clinching all four Rowing SA titles in the 2022/2023 season, this is the first time since Rowing SA began in 1894 that an SA club has won all four premierships in a single season.

Their success continued at the UniSport Nationals where they took home two gold and two silver medals and also placed second overall in UniSport men’s competition.

The Jessop Shield Club of the Year Award – AU SWIMMING CLUB

This award is for clubs with 50 or less members and is named after one of our first Life Members, Charles Jessop.

The winning club were allocated a $1,000 financial incentive, which can be put towards a club development project approved by the AUSF Board. For the second year running that club was the AU Swimming Club. They secured several grants outside of AUSF to help contribute to financial sustainability and increase memberships including successfully obtaining a grant to hold a Water Safety event hosted by the Royal Lifesaving Services for non-confident international student swimmers. The club ensured all swimmers felt welcome and at ease through come and try events and social events.

The Bennett Shield Club of the Year – AU VOLLEYBALL CLUB

This award recognises clubs with more than 50 members and this year, AU Volleyball Club were named the winners.

They were allocated a $1,000 financial incentive, which can be put towards a club development project approved by the AUSF Board.

The AU Volleyball Club (AUVC) has always prided itself in having an inclusive, welcoming and united culture and this year they put specific emphasis on doing this while also trying to develop space for their more competitive performers.

They strove to give their members more, with an increase in court numbers and adding more social sessions. AUVC were also given the opportunity to run a number of activations on campus, that gained huge amounts of engagement with the students via interactive vertical tests and the four-way volleyball net.

AUVC also ran the trials and team selection of Indoor and Beach Volleyball teams for the UniNationals with five teams selected to compete at the Gold Coast.
