Sports Week & 16th Annual VC Cup Wrap-Up: Celebrating Competition, Community, and Victory

Last week, Adelaide University Sport and Fitness hosted an action-packed Sports Week now in its second year of its extended version, culminating in the 16th annual Vice-Chancellor's Cup. Staff and students from across faculties and divisions came together for five days of spirited interfaculty competition, showcasing teamwork, athleticism, and a strong sense of community. 

This year's teams included: 

  • Faculty Sciences, Engineering and Technology
  • Faculty Health and Medical Sciences
  • Faculty Arts, Business, Law and Economics
  • Division of University Operations + Division of External Engagement (newly combined team for 2024)
  • Division of Academic and Student Engagement 
  • Adelaide University Sport and Fitness 
Day 1: New Event – 1000m Ergo Row at the Fitness Hub

Sports Week kicked off in the new North Terrace Fitness Hub with the 1000m Ergo Row, a fun new addition to the lineup. Over 20 participants from six teams competed fiercely on the rowing machines, while spectators explored the Fitness Hub Showcase Day that was being held alongside this Sports Week event. Medibank also joined the fun, helping us launch the week with energy and excitement.

  • 1st: ABLE
  • 2nd: DASE
  • 3rd: AUSF
  • 4th: SET
  • 5th: Uni Ops + EE
  • 6th: HMS

Day 2: Table Tennis Triumph

Tuesday’s event saw intense table tennis matchups, with Faculty SET smashing their way to the top spot and claiming the $50 Rebel Sport vouchers.

Table Tennis Final Placings:

  • 1st: SET
  • 2nd: Uni Ops + EE
  • 3rd: DASE
  • 4th: HMS
  • 5th: ABLE
  • 6th: AUSF

Day 3: Victory in Volleyball Showdown

Wednesday brought the popular volleyball competition on the sunny Maths Lawns. With teams battling it out in a lively contest, SET continued their winning streak and claiming the $50 Rebel Sport vouchers.

  • 3rd: DASE
  • 4th: AUSF
  • 5th: HMS
  • 6th: ABLE

Day 4: 3x3 Basketball Battle

The competition heated up on Thursday with the 3x3 basketball games in the Cloisters. Teams went head-to-head in a series of close matchups, but DASE emerged victorious, taking home the $50 Rebel Sport vouchers.

Day 5 (Part 1): Cornhole Challenge Fun

The final day of Sports Week began with the Cornhole Challenge, where teams aimed for precision. Even the rain couldn't dampen spirits, and the Adelaide University mascot, Gus, joined in to cheer on the participants. DASE secured yet another win in this fun event, once again securing the $50 Rebel Sport vouchers.

Day 5 (Part 2): The 16th Annual VC Cup - THE RACE THAT STOPS THE CAMPUS!

As the skies cleared, the highly anticipated 16th annual Vice-Chancellor's Cup took centre stage. Acting VC, Professor Jennie Shaw, kicked off the event, with teams eagerly lining up for the 800m 4x relay race. The competition was intense, but in the end, SET surged ahead to claim the prestigious VC Cup for 2024 along with each winning team member taking home a $50 Rebel Sport voucher. A big congratulations to all the runners who took part—this event is always a highlight on the calendar, and we greatly appreciate everyone making time from their busy schedules to compete and represent their faculties and divisions.

Overall Sports Week Champions: DASE Retains the Shield!

After the final event, team DASE was crowned the overall Sports Week champions for 2024, retaining the AUSF Interfaculty Shield for the second consecutive year. Their consistent performances across all events throughout the week led to a well-deserved victory. The shield will be engraved and presented to you to display in your offices soon!
