The season so far... AU WAATU

Published Mon 03 Apr 2023

In the 2023 University Basketball League season our men’s and women’s teams fell early against the University of Melbourne and the University of the Sunshine Coast.  Getting wins on the board in week three, is a major confidence booster heading into the second half of the season. Both leadership groups for both teams led by Evie Lovell, Josie Harris, Eddie Steele and Harry Reemst, never let their respective teams give in, and our Waatu teams never backed down.

A successful road trip to Melbourne gave our AU Waatu teams their first wins of the season. Behind our scoring leaders Toby Hunt and Harry Reemst, the men flared their dominance against Federation Uni and Australian Catholic Uni to put away two wins. In the women’s team, Scarlett Miles has been a major asset to the girl’s squad posting 12 points, and a massive 19 rebounds in a very tight game against ACU that went down to the wire, backing up another major team performance in a win against Federation University the day prior for their first win of the season!

Our AU Waatu men sit 5th on the UBL ladder, and the women are currently 7th heading into week 4. Our teams are back at home this week at St Clair Recreation Centre, with UTS coming to town. Our women tip off on Wednesday 5 April at 11am, and the men at 1pm.
