Adelaide University Sport and Fitness are thrilled to announce Roshan Chandran, Nikita Hains and Angus Higgins have received the 2022 Vice-Chancellor (VC) Travel Grants.

The VC Travel Grant has been established for student athletes who are representing Australia at international level.

All three students have recently returned from competitions in Europe, most notably Nikita Hains who competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Diving.

The Bio Medical Science student said it was “a lifelong goal to compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.”

“As athletes its quite a tough lifestyle, traveling is so important for our sport and necessary to build our career, so receiving help via the VC Travel Grant is something so invaluable.”

Roshan Chandran also travelled to the United Kingdom, competing at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in London.

The Civil Engineering student had a successful campaign, claiming Bronze with the Australian Junior Men's Epee Team.

The Junior National Champion was grateful for receiving the grant, saying “it represented important recognition and support.”

“Adelaide University Sport has done a great job in supporting me. It has provided me with development opportunities and study support, keeping me on track when I am away competing.”

Sailor Angus Higgins has enjoyed a successful first half of the year, ranking third in his most recent national competition and completing his first European campaign.

“The VC Travel Grant is an opportunity for me to fulfill my dreams of becoming an Olympic Sailor,” Higgins said.

The Mechanical Engineering student also added, “I’d strongly recommended any student athlete to apply for this grant, as it not only allows you to be financially supported to compete at an international level, but also gives you the recognition of your abilities as an athlete.”

Applications for 2023 will be made available via the Adelaide University Sport and Fitness website in the new year.
